Kowloon Restaurant – Saugus MA
In 1950 the Wong family established the Route 1 landmark Kowloon restaurant in Saugus MA and it is still going strong today.
Easily the most recognizable tiki destinations in New England, its mid century modern take on the exotic theme is a step back in time– floating staircases, indoor fountains, A-frames, thatched roofs, island murals and even an indoor sailing ship that doubles as a dance floor.
The cuisine is straight up Boston style Chinese- replete with crab rangoons, pork fried rice and the giggle inducing pu-pu platter. Healthy it ain’t but mmm fried! You can also get sushi if you like.
Tiki drinks are a treat that pack a wallop -served in funky tiki mugs which are also for sale in the lobby. Share a Scorpion Bowl and watch the fun begin.
A Retro Roadtrip to Massachusetts would not be complete without a drive up Route 1 north of Boston, and Kowloon is a must stop!
