LaPlace Frostop is The PLACE for Root Beer! La Place LA

“Home of the Lot-O-Burger and Frosted Mug Root Beer”

Well if their web title tag doesn’t make you want to head directly there, this photo sure will:

Dang that’s pretty!

And,  be-still my beating heart…the mug (renovated for its 50th birthday) even ROTATES!

Built by Morris Terry in 1958, the Frostop is still in the family, run by son-in-law Jimmie and granddaughter Terry.  While the Frostop has been renovated a couple of times within the last 20 years,  my retroroadmap hat  goes off to the Tolers for retaining the gorgeous signage, lighting and classic roadstand architecture you see today.

Stop by and get a lot-o-burger and their famous onion rings, they sound delish!

  1. It’s wonderful they’ve worked so hard to keep this great piece of history alive!

  2. Been there a few times an hope to go later today. Thanks for the photo and video. Makes me want a frosty mug and a burger!

  3. Frost Top Lovers says:

My husband and I met at a Frost Top in St. Bernard Parish 43 years ago, and two years later we were married. When we accidently came across one of the, “Original Frost Top’s” in LaPlace we got really excited to know that we could still eat at a place that brought back so many memories. So many buildings and businesses have been destroyed over the years, but it is nice to know that a few of them have been preserved. I would like to personally thank the Tolers for keeping the building and food original.
I would also like to thank you for sharing a special place in our hearts and memories with everyone else in your blog.

    • Thanks so much for your sweet note! I’m more than happy to spread the good word about places like the La Place Frostop, and the Tolers were so nice and friendly, even staying open later than their 6pm posted closing time as not to let down folks pulled in by the revolving mug. So glad we made the detour down there!
