Since 1948 the Tasty Dip in Heflin, AL has been offering tasty food and sweet treats to reward folks who get off of Interstate 20 to drive the back roads. The Tasty Dip wasn't even on our plan or radar, but when we got off of 20 because of horrible traffic their cheery neon sign was our reward!
Even though we had eating plans for further down the road, how could we not grab a little something at this classic roadside stand, on a summery day? I'm forever grateful that RetroRoadhusband is game for these spontaneous snack stops. And that he will wait in line to order the food, as I walk around snapping photos. :-)
We decided to share the Peanut & Fudge Parfait - being the suckers for roadside advertising that we are...
It was a mighty tasty treat - just take a look at those peanuts!
And a good excuse to get out of the car and sit in the sunshine at one of their green picnic tables. I cracked up at the miniature picnic table that was next to ours - for the wee folk!
This is what a retro road trip is all about - the unexpected find along the way.
