We drove from Austin, TX to Memphis, TN in record time, just so we could partake of the world famous fried chicken at Gus’s. If that isn’t a carrot (chicken leg) dangling in front of you to make you step on the gas I don’t know what is!
We pulled up to the original Gus’s around 9:30 at night and were relieved to see they were still open and the place was hoppin. We put our names on the list and waited outside in the warm night air, along with some other families and fried chicken afficionados.
We didn’t have to wait long for our seats in the old glazed brick building, and within moments we were enjoying some drinks and ordering ourselves up some chicken.
Here’s a shot of RetroRoadhusband’s meal, as he got sides with his – I just got chicken and wolfed it down before I realized I hadn’t taken a photo! The crusty crispy skin was delightful, the meat moist and hot and I better stop trying to think of adjectives to accurately describe this prized poultry, as I’m practically drooling on my keyboard.

When you’re in Memphis, you may think ribs but do Gus’s.
