Two Roads Diverged – Pick The Right One and A Vintage Sign Awaits!

Sometimes you just can’t trust a route marker (like Route 1 this weekend through Providence, which got me quite turned around!) but in the case of Route 202 through Norristown PA a vintage sign photo op awaits if you choose the right one!

Retro Roadhusband and I were traveling north via 202 through King of Prussia PA and didn’t realize at the time that we were following the “wrong” set of 202 signs (see the Retro Roadmap location for this vintage sign – you will indeed see 202 listed on 2 different roads parallel to each other!) I thought it was odd that the familiar landmarks of the 202 I knew did not appear on the horizon, but all was forgiven when we drove past the lovely vintage storefront of Myers Drugs in Norristown PA. I quickly snapped a photo with my camera as we drove by, and only recently was able to go back and investigate properly.

IMG_1046It looks like the sign used to be lit with neon, with the holes a dead giveaway. I’m pleased to report that Myers is still open to sell “durable medical goods” and prescriptions, but I noticed when I stopped my car to take a photo this time that you need to be buzzed into the store, because of the neigborhood I guess, which has seen better days. There was a grandma with a grandchild buzzing in and someone else sitting waiting inside, so I didn’t think the folks working inside would be too interested in me asking about their storefront. I snapped a few photos and hopped back into my car.

As I got myself settled I did not give much notice to the rectangular building across the way- however when I looked up, it suddenly became more appealing! There are also a couple of really interesting looking churches on this stretch of “202” as well. It’s at times like this when I’m glad I took the divergent path, it made all the difference!
