February 2014- So sad to report that the Kirby & Holloway restaurant suffered a terrible fire. The sign was untouched, but who knows how long it will be until it is lit again. We wish the K&H folks well. Here’s a FB page set up by the Friends of Kirby and Holloway if you want to keep tabs.
This gorgeous bit of roadside eyecandy is located on the commercial section of Route 13 in Dover, Delaware and shows what neat stuff exists off of the highway:
Kirby & Holloway’s main claim to fame is being a manufacturer of scrapple, which some in these parts consider a delicacy. Me? First time I saw it I thought someone had grilled and burned a kitchen sponge, but hubby was thrilled with it. When a food is proud to claim, “contains no snouts!” well, you just lose me there. But I digress.
The restaurant isn’t as fancy to look at, but when we did eat in there the food was OK regular diner type food. But that sign is a glorious sight day or night, and worth a swing off of the highway.
