We’re doing some “retro – renovations” to the Hacienda this year, and one thing I’ve wanted to do for ages is to add our house number in script, in addition to our actual number (surrounded by a fabulous vintage palm tree frame that came with the house- we LOVE that!)
(One of the reasons we bought the Hacienda was this great sign!)
I picked up a bunch of these script house numbers at an old hardware store that was closing years ago, but we’re missing the “Thirty” that we need to complete our street number.
(I’ve got a Twenty and a Forty – but we need a Thirty! – can you help us?)
Retro-house blog queen Pam Keuber from Retro Renovation has recently revealed that I’m not the only gal who is smitten with this bit of vintage house decor, but now that the word is out the numbers are getting pretty spendy on eBay and such.
And you know me – I’d rather support a little local hardware store or 5 & 10 store that has these in stock, so I’ve been checking the local ones I know of, but to no avail.
So this is where I thought I could reach out to you dear Retro Roadmap readers!
If you have a local independent hardware store – could you look and see if they have a script house number THIRTY in their old stock, for Mod Betty? I’d gladly pay your cost plus postage plus throw in some Retro Roadmap memorabilia, as well as give you accolades on the site!
I heard on the radio last week a piece about a Cash Mob that showed up at a Philadelphia area hardware store and it gave this locally owned business a nice bump in their daily sales. I’m totally adding that store to my list of places to check out. and I’m kinda in love with the Cash Mob notion – we could all get together for Retro Roadmap meetups and do that to local places worth visitin!
Even if your local store doesn’t have the house numbers I’m looking for, maybe you could pick up something handy that you need for your hacienda, and you’ll be supporting the local guy, and your neighborhood at the same time.
It’s Scavenger Hunt time! This could be fun!

May 7, 2012 at 12:42 pmI’m on the case! I had a friend who was looking for a replacement for her vintage screen door decoration (one of those cast “carriage” decorations from the 50s) and I stumbled upon one a few months later. Hopefully, I’ll get my mo-jo working and find a “thirty” for you.
I love the whole concept of cash mobs … we should do some brain-storming and come up with one or two 🙂

May 7, 2012 at 12:46 pmWendy Vee you rock my world! That would be so fab to put that on your list of things to look for – and if there’s anything you’re in the market for that I can keep my eyes peeled for, I’m so on it!
I’m going to add to the post that if any Retro Roadmap Reader is looking for some of the numbers that I have I’ll gladly share what I have!
And we definitely need to talk about Cash Mob, Retro Style – it could be a meetup at a drive in movie theatre, ice cream stand….who knows! Let’s try to plan one for this summer shall we?

May 8, 2012 at 12:06 amJust to be clear. You need the WORDS “One-thirty-five” in a script font, not the numbers in script? 🙂 My sister lives near a small, family owned hardware that has catered to the needs of it’s suburban neighborhood since the Sixties, I believe. Fought hard to stay in business in a Lowe’s and Home Depot world, unfortunately. How appropriate is that, Betty? I will have to look there this coming weekend….yes….. Oh, a classic drive in meet up sounds like a great idea. You’re in the Philly area, too Wendy?

May 8, 2012 at 9:32 amThanks for checking it out for me Matt – and that’s exactly the reason I thought it might be cool to give people an “excuse” to visit their local hardware store that hopefully hasn’t been closed down by Lowes or Home Depot.
Retro Roadmap summer meetup – ok that’s 3 of us – who else is in?!
