Fellow Retroblogger and go-getter Pam at RetroRenovation.com just launched a new blog – Knotty is Nice, all about vintage knotty pine paneling. She contacted me prior to launch and I was more than happy to allow her to feature this great photo of my dear old (but young at the time) dad – in one of the premiere posts!
(Isn’t he the cutest? And obviously quite the ladies man!)
Here she lists 5 Reasons Why Knotty Pine was so Popular and gives a lil ol shout out to both Retro Roadmap and my dad. I’ll have to post about this on my Cousins Facebook page to see if anyone knows who the mystery folks are, or where this photo was taken.
(We had knotty pine in the den of our house growing up, and in the cellar, but it has long since been replaced or repainted. Mum says the kitchen was painted “Pepto Bismol Pink” when they first moved in, but she painted it over with “Mobil Yellow” – paint she inherited from one of my great-uncle’s Mobil gas stations.)
I sure do miss my dad, but it’s nice to share the image of him young and happy, with the world. He was a great guy!

May 21, 2012 at 7:11 pmGreat photo Mod Betty. I’m thrilled to hear about Pam’s new blog. My Dad built the house I grew up in and he used knotty pine in the dining room. It’s one thing I miss in our current house, no knotty pine.

May 23, 2012 at 12:41 pmYou may not have knotty pine, but you did a great job on those kitchen cabinets Uncle Atom! I wish I had your skills and patience!

May 26, 2012 at 6:13 pmwe live in a 90+ year old home. there’s a little addition with a powder room and built in cabinets off the kitchen and it’s knotty pine from floor to ceiling. we call it the “pine place”. i love it. it feels so 1950’s ranch-living to me.

May 27, 2012 at 12:40 pmWhat a great photo of your dad! Knotty pine reminds me of the den and playroom on Sutton Rd. I’m sure there are many photos of our crew at junior high and h.s. parties with that knotty pine in the background. 🙂

May 28, 2012 at 9:56 amSuzanne – I totally forgot that the lower level of your Sutton home was knotty pine. Ah, the background to our youth!
