The Retro Roadmap Vintage Tiki Weekend 2016 was a fun success, and a perfect excuse to dust off the tiki togs and visit the country’s mid-century-motel mecca, Wildwood New Jersey.
Even if you missed it, you can create your own Vintage Weekend in Wildwood yourself: Here’s all you do!
Pick an Authentic Vintage Mid Century Motel to stay in:
As you know we’re partial to the hippest one in the crowd, The Caribbean, but Wildwood is chockablock full of authentic 1950s motels with great neon signs and architectural details:
Visit the Doo Wop Experience, right across from the Convention Center:
We were lucky enough to host our welcome party under the rescued neon signs and surrounded by 1950s artifacts, but they’re open for regular visitors too.
Partake in a celebratory cocktail!
– after all, you ARE on vacation, right?
We were lucky to have Caribbean regulars Eric & Lisa create authentic Beachbum Berry cocktails for us, but you can imbibe whatever you choose.
We tried not to get “Zaberized” while we mingled:
Tour Wildwood After Dark and see the place all lit up -it’s gorgeous!
Explore the town during the day, too!
Mod Betty sent folks out on a “Virtual Scavenger Hunt” to get to know Wildwood more or just create your own adventure.
Get dolled up in vintage garb!
Get into the spirit of the era and glam it up a bit, like our pals Marilyn and David did – ain’t they swanky?
Listen to vintage tunes!
You don’t need a DJ like we had (Blanko Dave of the Thrifty Discount DJs) …
but anything to get you in the vintage spirit will do!
Lastly – Have Fun with What Nature Brings You!
So if torrential rain washes out your poolside party, head towards the Cabana Room and get to know your neighbors!
Adversity inspires camaraderie, and the next thing you know, you’ll be getting drenched just to grab a photo with the swell folks you only met this weekend that seem like friends already:
LASTLY – the most important thing is:
DON’T WAIT for an event like this to go and support the cool authentic places that still exist – go out and do it now!
XO
Mod Betty
