Here’s a little RetroRoadmap related lunctime silliness from one of my fave comedic songwriters Allan Sherman. As you all know, I have a “thing” for maps of the United States, and lists, and lists about maps! Here’s a song about a list about a map. Whee!
I bring you “Holiday For Strings” by Allan Sherman (click this link to listen)
I’ve got a big thank you going out to my RetroRoadhusband Cliff Hillis who bought the MP3 for me and posted it on his own website (he’s a musician dontcha know) so we could hear the whole thing and not just the snippet on the internets. Give his music as a thank you to him, I think you’ll like it!
You may find that tune familiar. It’s “Holiday for Strings” By David Rose – who also (thank you internets)
- Wrote The Stripper!
- Was married to Martha Raye AND Judy Garland (not at the same time as far as I know)
- Wrote music for Little House on The Prairie!
Here’s a fun version of the original, courtesy of that staple of my Grandmother’s household, Lawrence Welk:

We all need a little silliness, sometimes! Doesn’t it make you want to take a zig zaggy cross country road trip?

December 2, 2010 at 4:52 pmHoly Frijoles!! I love Cliff’s music and I thought it was cool that he has worked with The Jellybricks … but then I read that he has worked with Eric Bazilian and I was over the moon. I was a huge Hooters fan in high school and I had the biggest crush on Eric!!
(note: Wow, saying that you are a huge Hooters fan sounds much different in 2010 than it did in the late 80s! LOL)
Liked the vid; but have to wonder how many acres of peach-colored Polyester were needlessly slaughtered to outfit LW’s orchestra 🙂

December 2, 2010 at 5:08 pmWV- Cliff is/was a big fan of the band the Hooters, so working with Eric is a cool thing for him too. He actually recorded and produced John Lilley’s first solo album last year as well. And they danced! 🙂
