Just in time for Valentines Day we discovered Ballyhoo the sweetest destination in the Scranton PA area! West Pittston to be exact. Just across the river from Pittston proper, famous for their tomato festival.
Opened on Halloween in 2012. the Schultz family has transformed this historic building (omg the tin ceilings!) into a turn of the century soda fountain, candy store and museum. They've got some great photos lining the walls of what this building looked like generations ago. So cool that the space is filled with life again.
Ice cream sundaes run from the traditional CMP to the inventive- marshmallows toasted while you wait, anyone? Mine was so good I wolfed it down before taking photos, but here's where we sat, an adorable pair of Pennsylvania Dutch booths, right across from the "penny" candy counter and antique cash register. There are plenty of booths and bigger tables on the other side, perfect for larger groups or parties (hmmm...should we rent it out?!)
Marvel at their collection of antique artifacts from the past 100 years including amusement park games AND the Mr. Peanut from Atlantic City! I know someone who is afraid of that Mr. Peanut, so I'm not posting it on Instagram, but this gives a good view of that wonderful authentic vintage tin ceiling.
Ballyhoo is a seriously wonderful place run by wonderful folks, and it is heartwarming to see it bustling with couples and multi-generation families.
