Sellersville Theater – Sellersville PA’s Live Music Spot!

The Sellersville Theater hasn’t been a theater since 1894, but for the past 15 years it has drawn folks to town for live music events, and was the local movie house for decades before that. Today folks come from miles around to hear Americana, Jazz, Rock and Jam Bands, Blues, R&B and more. Mod Betty has seen plenty of great shows here, and Retro Roadhusband has even graced the stage a few times himself!

The building was originally the livery stable for the Washington House next door. Throughout the years it had a variety of uses including a garage for automobiles, and was the local movie theater in town starting in 1950. Known as the SelVil, it was in operation until 1970 when a fire tore through the building. Renamed Cinema 1894 when it reopened in 1972, it was purchased by the owners of the Washington House in 2001.

Reopening in 2002, the theater was transformed into a 300 seat venue for live music, with brand new seats, completely upgraded electric and plumbing, and decorative antique sconces lining the walls.

Further improvements were made in later years including an added deck, and expanded lobby space to give more room near the snack bar. And I do mean bar, as they serve wine and beer (and snacks) before and during shows. Note the bar is cash only, but you can buy “Lobby Loot” at the box office with your credit card, and that can be used at the bar!

For a night on the town, Retro Roadmap style, arrive early for dinner at the Washington House! It's a great way to spend an evening and support these historic businesses.
