Those of you who frequent the Retro Roadmap Facebook Page already got a glimpse into the fun times we had this weekend at our 2nd visit to the Koolwink Motel in Romney WV. This time we brought some pals along and now they’re fans of this family owned vintage motel too!

Like this fabulous vintage “spaghetti” lamp!
Koolwink owner Robert told us he had found some of these in storage and decided to rewire them to hang in some of the guest rooms. I warned him not to sell them to anyone, as they add the perfect authentic vintage charm to an already charming place!
Speaking of lamps, I was also smitten by this (rewired and carefully repainted) lamp in our room:
But one of the most fun discoveries of our entire trip was the barware and mugs that we had the opportunity to buy as souvenirs!
They definitely added a cosmopolitan flair to our Saturday night cookout and Hootenanny, and will grace our home bar with pride.
On a slightly more somber note, we learned, as we had feared that “Mrs.Koolwink” had passed away last fall, and that business at the motel had not been good since our last visit. I felt glad that we had brought a gaggle of pals with us, and am going to do everything I can to encourage everyone I know to spend some time here, and tell their friends too! I kinda have to…now that I’m THE MAYOR! 🙂
