Want to be happily overwhelmed with a selection of homemade chocolates and candies in an historic building? Then Aunt Charlotte’s is your place. Since 1920 this family owned and operated candy store has been serving up the sweet stuff year ‘round. Well, except for August when they take a well earned break (and when chocolate melts in the hot summer!)
Named after the original owner’s aunt, this business began small with founder Charles Brooks Oakford Sr. creating candies on his kitchen stove and selling them from his Model T to Merchantville residents. Fast forward to today, it’s a 4th generation run business, with the candies made in the factory located right here, on the 2nd story of the building - once a Feed and Grain store - that they have occupied since 1971.
There really is a reason to visit Aunt Charlotte’s every season, starting with homemade Valentines chocolates and their famous “Irish Potatoes”. Easter is where their creativity really shines, with intricate hand decorated chocolate eggs, bunnies, and Mod Betty’s new fave “peeps in a canoe” - sweet marshmallow delights tucked into a little chocolate boat. In addition to candies and chocolates for Mothers Day, Fathers Day, and birthdays there is a huge selection of gifts items and stuffed toys for your one stop gift shopping.
Christmas is a wonder here at Aunt Charlotte’s, as they’re famous for their handmade candy canes (look it up on Youtube for a video of this wild process). There really is a “delight in every bite” at Aunt Charlotte’s.
Mod Betty Says:
We call ‘em turtles, but they call ‘em crabs!
During the busy season grab a number at the door - and weigh yourself only if you dare!
Closed on Sundays so plan your stops accordingly. You can also order online at their website
