When visiting Manitowoc Wisconsin I unexpectedly stumbled upon Beerntsen's Candy / Confectionary - lucky me! Even though I do research whenever we're hitting the road, the surprise delight always is exciting!
Opened in 1932 it's a step back in time as soon as you step inside the door.
When you sit at one of their carved wooden booths you can get an ice cream sundae (or other sweet treat) soup, sandwiches or hand dipped candies!
Since we couldn't stay (we were looking at the Christmas Trees - see below) I opted to grab some chocolates to eat later. So good, I wish I had some now! Those fresh roasted nuts look like they'd hit the spot as well.
If you are looking for an excuse to head to Manitowoc, head there in December. While it may be chilly out, that's when they celebrate that the town is where they invented the Evergleam Aluminum Christmas Tree, and they're on display all over town:
