As you know Mod Betty is a champion of the little guy, the place with the small seating area but big heart. This pretty much sums up how I feel about the Broad Street Diner in Keyport. And I’m not the only one who digs this place - it has been voted New Jersey’s best diner by NJ.com and Bobby Flay is a fan too!
This authentic circa 1953 O’Mahony diner (look for the diner tag in the vestibule) is located just a few blocks from Raritan Bay. You won’t have to wonder much about its 1950s origins as you will be reminded at every turn that this place has been around since the days of Elvis and Marilyn.
While this type of decor usually gets points off in the Retro Roadmap rulebook, the friendly service, delicious food and affordable prices more than make up for this pet peeve of mine.
Owned by Nick and Maria Kallas since 2015, these two grew up in Greek diner families, and you’ll see their experience reflected in the delicious meals, daily specials (OMG that cheeseburger soup) and hearty portions. If you leave here hungry you must be doing something wrong!
From the servers bringing your food to the welcomes the older generation receive, to the friendly local chit-chat at the cash register, this is the type of experience that make diners like this the community gathering spots that mean so much to all of us. Even Elvis and Marilyn would agree.
Open 7 days a week and they take credit cards
Only closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas, they close at 3pm on Sunday.
Walk down to the water and you can see New York from there!
