One of the great things about Retro Roadmapping is discovering local landmarks that we out of towners might not even know about. Case in point is Chick & Nello’s Homestead Inn, a decades-old destination for steaks, chops and Italian fare tucked back off the road in Hamilton Township, north of Trenton.

Opened in 1939 in what once was an old farmhouse (and some say a speakeasy!) by brothers-in-law “Chick” Peroni and “Nello” Rosati, the restaurant is still in the family, with Peter Rosati at the helm, and plenty of seasoned and formally dressed waitstaff to keep the place running smoothly.
a spot at the old-school bar to tuck into your meal. Despite the farmhouse setting there are white tablecloths that contrast nicely with the authentic wood paneling - it’s like being at your grandparents house for a special meal.
And special it is! They’re known for their steaks, pork and lamb chops grilled over charcoal during dinnertime. There are daily specials and their pasta is delicious covered with their House special red sauce. Mod Betty like her penne (aka “pencil points ‘as they say around here) Primo style, a combination of Aglio e Olio and House Sauce. Bread is served with spicy long hots, and is perfect for mopping up every little last bit of sauce. For such a small place their wine list is robust, so celebrate discovering this hidden gem!
