If you are near Swedesboro between “October and Easter” you have to stop by Damask Candies - because they’re closed the rest of the months! For years Mod Betty would drive past this little roadside house en route to Wildwood in the summer, remembering to visit in the chilly months, when chocolates would not melt on a hot car seat.
This 4th generation- family owned business began in Swedesboro in 1906 and moved to this location in 1955, taking advantage of traffic going through the area just off the New Jersey Turnpike. Now owned by Doug Damask ( with his daughters learning the trade) Chocolates are still made here onsite using the giant copper kettles and family recipes handed down from his grandfather.
While all of their chocolates are delicious and made with high quality ald locally sourced ingredients, Mod Betty is smitten with their unusual offering of chocolate covered oyster crackers! Who would think those little salty crunchy discs that you drop into your soup would be even more delicious when enrobed in sweet creamy chocolate? Available in either milk or dark chocolate, I can never decide which one I like better. I’m obviously not the only one, as they make boxes of these delicious treats that are half and half.
Looking for a sweet treat for yourself? They sell candy by the piece/pound, so select a box of your favorites and indulge. The perfect place to get hostess gift for Thanksgiving or Christmas. Who would not want a heart shaped box or Easter basket filled with homemade candies?
Easy access from either 295 or the NJ turnpike - make a sweet stop!
