Day’s Ice Cream – Ocean Grove New Jersey’s Seasonal Sweet Spot!

Ocean Grove New Jersey is much more 19th-century than the usual Retro Roadmappy places but who am I to split hairs, when the town’s oldest continually operating business serves ice cream in a breezy Victorian porch setting? Sign me up!

Day’s ice cream was started in 1876 by the Day brothers, who also owned a confectionery in town.

While the interior of the small shop has been updated to appeal to modern folks, you’ll only spend time there while getting your favorite frozen treat. Day’s doesn’t make their own ice cream but obtains ice cream from a variety of manufacturers to ensure a wide selection of flavors.

You will feel a connection with the Victorian-era past as soon as you bring your ice cream sundae out onto their porch area.

This “roofless court” is a wonderful place to enjoy your frozen treats while the glare of the sun is blocked by cheery striped canvas awnings. Breezes come through the open windows of this former “tea room” that was tastefully restored in the early 1990s. Once called Day’s ice cream garden, you’ll spot a nice collection of greenery off to the side of the building.

It is open seasonally which only makes sense, as the delightful outdoor courtyard seating area would be no fun in the middle of winter!

For a long time visitors to Ocean Grove often had one question for each other - Day’s or Nagles? But sadly in 2019 Nagles is closed (Mod B hopes it is just temporary!) So in the meantime raise your cone at Day’s and savor the fleeting sweetness that it brings!
