We had to leave Spokane WA too early to partake in the burgers at Dick's Hamburgers (opened in 1965) but had we stayed in town longer than 12 hours, we certainly would've eaten here based on the sign alone!
I did love their neighboring restaurant's name "Frankie Doodle's" - you can just spy their sign above Dick's flat roof in this photo, and both signs are easily visible from the highway when flying past.
Any Spokane area Retro Roadmappers care to clue us travelers in as to what a Whammy Burger is and why their tartar sauce is so famous? Or what the deal is with the...Panda Bear Mascot? Inquiring Minds Want To Know!
Next time we're in Spokane we'll stop by! If you are in that neck of the woods, you do the same!

June 25, 2015 at 6:19 pmFrom what I have heard, Dick’s used to be called Panda. A whammy is two burger patties, two cheese and a bun. I always order a ketchup mustard whammy. And the tarter sauce is delish! No idea what makes it better than other tartar sauce, but it is. Ordering is fun too, since you almost always have a complete cross section of Spokanites, from top to bottom and in between… oh, and now i am hungry!
