Collins Bowladrome in Billerica (Think Bill / Erica , for spelling, Billa Rikka for pronouncing ;-)) Massachusetts has been open since 1950 and is still family owned and operated, says the gent behind the register.
We had a fun time sharing the joys of Duckpins with the Retro Roadkids on a recent visit. Sometimes Retro Roadhusband is the biggest Retro Roadkid of all :-)
Retro Roadboy liked "clearing the deadwood" between shots, handing the slightly larger than grapefruit sized balls (canteloupe sized maybe?) to us, and resetting the pins. I reminded him that back in the day kids of his size would sit up above the pins and set them by hand. He was dumbstruck!
He's also the only one of us to get a couple of strikes!I taught Retro Roadgirl how to keep score for bowling the old fashioned way, by hand - with paper and pencil. And popcorn.
The place was pretty packed when we first got there - and I can see why with their affordable rates. $5 per person per string (which includes shoes) or bowl as much as you want for $20 an hour, so it's great for groups!
We also taught the kiddles a few life lessons - like DON'T WALK IN THE GUTTER! Their mom would be proud ;-)
You should stop by next time you're in the area, since it's 1 of only 3 Duckpin Bowling lanes left in all of Massachusetts!
