It was a rare treat to have the entire Retro Roadfam with us on a sunny Saturday morning, so I knew that there would be nothing finer than eating in a diner - Joe's Diner in Taunton, MA to be exact.
According to the trusted diner resource Diner Hotline this vintage 1940 Sterling Diner started out in life in Everett, MA and was moved to Taunton in 1986 Just a few miles down the road from The Milk Bottle, and just inches away from Colonial Donuts. Boy do I love this neck of the woods.
I ate at this diner years ago, and it was nice to be able to make some fond family memories during our breakfast there. Here's one of the Retro Roadkids getting silly with "RoadUncle" under the barrel roof of the diner.
And Retro Roadboy was pleased that he could flip his placemat over and draw a picture of the diner, with his two characters Ed and Fred joining in on the fun.
Breakfast is served all day at Joe's, and I was more than happy to see my fave regional treat linguiça (Portuguese sausage) listed as a meat offering alongside the more standard bacon, ham and sausage. No scrapple here, much to Retro Roadhusband's dismay.
Joe's has some odd hours in that they're only open 'til the early afternoon most days but on the weekends they re-open to catch the late crowd from 11pm-1am. I think that's a great idea, as breakfast at night certainly can hit the spot.
So if you're looking for breakfast or lunch in an authentic diner - eat at Joe's!
