While so many places in Wildwood drape themselves in layers of new pastel “doo wop decor” to honor the bright history of this seaside town, Mod Betty oftentimes prefers the more muted places and tones that still evoke that era. Even better when they’re originally open since that time, and changed little since then.
In other words - Larkin’s Restaurant.

Serving only breakfast, Larkin’s is the oldest restaurant in Wildwood still family owned and operated. Started in 1950 it is run by generations of the Larkin family, with the young ones coming in for a visit on occasion. And while the decades have passed since they opened up, very little has changed, for which we could not be more thrilled.

Wood paneled walls (who ever thought I’d be swoony about wood paneling?!) and aqua colored mid-century style booths. The grey and white woodgrain Formica pattern on the tables and counters is so vintage that its back in vogue again. Horseshoe shaped counter with diner style swivel stools. Get a seat underneath that scallop fringe edge awning if you can - so charming! If only those iconic Seeburg Consolettes worked.

Breakfast is the meal of the day here, and the menu is fairly limited, so make sure to look for the daily specials on the board. Be forewarned - no poached or soft boiled eggs, but if you’re lucky your toast may be served stamped with a smile or good morning greeting! What a good way to start your vintage visit to Wildwood.
