Opened in 1929 as a Pharmacy and soda fountain, MacAlpines is one of Phoenix's oldest operating businesses. Lucky for us!
While it is no longer a pharmacy, the best part of a vintage pharmacy tends to be the soda fountain, which is still the main draw at MacAlpine's. There are swivel stools there where it is reported that Wayne Newton might've been discovered, but also antique wooden booths and tables for larger crowds.
Not just a soda fountain - the diner portion of the menu offers sandwiches hot and cold, burgers, salads and other sensible and tasty treats.
However, we decided to get ice cream - because of course we just ate moments earlier at the Sugar Bowl.
Boy I wish my stomach was larger, as the ice cream was delicious. See, that little one was mine
I am so glad we made time to explore the vintage shop offerings, there were so many fun things to look at!
What a cool combo - diner, ice cream, soda fountain and vintage store. Mod Betty heaven in Phoenix!
