We just happened to be walking down Fourth Avenue during our whirlwind stop in Louisville, KY and were delighted to see these vintage theatre marquees:
The Palace theatre was built in 1928 and currently offers live entertainment including Broadway touring productions and the local Symphony Orchestra's Pops series (thanks to the Cinema Treasures page for The Palace Theatre for that info.)
And what a surprise the Ohio Theatre marquee was. I had to think a minute when we saw it, to realize we weren't in Ohio yet (we would be later that evening). Again, according to that wonderful resource Cinema Treasures
"The Art Deco style Ohio Theatre opened during 1941 and closed as a motion picture venue in 1965."
But what most surprised us was this view!
(That's a pretty narrow theatre-!!!)
"The facade and marquee of the building are all that remain of this theatre today, along with its large “Ohio” vertical sign. Part of the storefront portion of the theater building still exists, as well. Unfortunately, the remainder of the Ohio Theatre was demolished." - bummer.
But still, a nice surprise on our all too short visit to the city!

Both are gorgeous! The last time that I was in Louisville, I was stuck in a hotel at a conference the entire time and I didn’t get to explore.
That Ohio Theatre edifice is great!

Still, worth checking out if you are in Louisville! My Hubby and I saw Alison Krauss there a couple years back. The Ohio blade sign is cool too, but I felt the same way, kind of bummed the rest of the theatre wasn’t there.

I like Dani’s blog, seems we have a lot in common, both in Ohio, both in a small rural town, (wondering if we are in the same one) both like old structures, I’d like to do the See Rock City barn tour too, that would be so fun.
