Clinton, Tennessee - thank you for keeping your cool authentic vintage places alive!
1930's era Pharmacy w/Lunch Counter, Great Neon Sign, Streamline Moderne/Deco Building attached to a vintage movie house? There goes Mod Betty's blood pressure! OMG SWOON!
I stumbled upon Hoskin's Drug Store in Clinton TN during some research and was lucky enough also to discover that our pals at Marie, Let's Eat! have visited and written about it. So with permission I'm using their photo, and linking to their writeup, so we all can go to there soon instead of waiting for lil ol me!
"The old soda counter is still in place and looking every bit as timeless and charming as any traveler could hope.
In 1998, the US Department of the Interior added it to the National Register of Historic Places.
Next door is the 1940s-era Ritz Theater, which still shows first-run films on its single screen."
it looks like the locals come for their daily meat-and-two specials. As the clock hit twelve, the line stretched to the door,
and while the kitchen had a few orders, like mine, for burgers and things, the counter was busy serving up
meatloaf and mashed potatoes and gravy. I must say that it looked really good.
It was crowded when they were dining, so they did not get any excellent shots of the vintage lunch counter interior, but check out these photo of the interior from Yelp and you'll immediately put this place on your Retro Roadmap bucket list.
ALSO!
The Ritz theatre - opened in 1945 is right next door - so it's a double whammy of vintage awesomeness. (I am going to post about that separately so it, too is on Retro Roadmap!)
