I want to ac-cen-tu-ate the positive here on Retro Roadmap so I'll show you the Coffee Pot in Bedford Pennsylvania as it looks today:
(that's our fave gal Mary Deluxe!)
According to the wonderful folks at Roadside America:
Built in 1927, the 18-ft. high Coffee Pot was originally a lunch place adjoining a gas station. In 1937 it became a bar, with a hotel built in behind it.
But The Coffee Pot like many of the things we vintage roadside folks love, fell into disrepair. This is what it looked like when we saw it in 2003:
Luckily preservationists saw how sad The Coffee Pot looked in that very same year, and worked to get it saved, moved and renovated. You can't get coffee here, just a photo op, but hooray for a roadside story with a happy ending!

Love this place and Bedford, Pa. It’s retro roadtrip dream come true!
What a great station. With so many independent petrol stations closing in the UK because of the supermarkets, I hope the locals look after this one.It’s a pity that the pumps aren’t the originals, or are they?
