Right down the street from Ward's 5 &10 in Closter, New Jersey is the the Harold Hess Lustron House. Listed on both the state and national registers of historic places, this modest "mostly metal" house is open to the public each 2nd Saturday of the month from 12-2pm.
Lustron Houses were built by the Lustron Corporation of Ohio in response to post WWII housing needs. Prefabricated steel parts were manufactured on an assembly line and could be shipped to a customer's lot where it could be assembled. Between 1948 and 1950 Lustron made 2,498 homes.
This is a "Westchester Deluxe" model with an attached garage and was assembled here in 1950.
Supported and taken care of by the Friends of the Hess Lustron - follow them on Facebook and make sure to visit!
Thanks Tim A. for recommending this lustrous addition to Retro Roadmap!
