The “Oldest Penny Arcade in America” !

Auntie Mod Betty and the Retro Roadkids had a swell visit to the “Oldest Penny Arcade in America” located alongside a picturesque out of the way spot in Harrisville - also known as Burrillville  - OR Glendale! Rhode Island.

Now how does one qualify to be the Oldest Penny Arcade In America? According to the website (and owner John Bateman) Spring Lake is the oldest operating Penny Arcade "Business" in America because "Since it’s first drop of a coin in 1930, Spring Lake Arcade has always had penny games." So it is truly a PENNY arcade! But they also have nickel,dime and quarter games too, so empty out the piggy bank and come along with! Or use their handy one of a kind change machine to help you out! The Arcade is original to the lake, opening up in the early 1930s, and has quite a history.  Every year it opens seasonally from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

It's a fun experience for the entire family, where little ones can play lots of games for not a lot of dough. Tweens and teens do have new games to choose...

And folks of all ages can delight in the vintage games collected here over the years.

One thing that everyone will get a kick out of is to spot the "vintage" photographs of former employees that previous owner George Stearns snuck into some of the machines!

Spring Lake is a sweet spot for a picnic or a wade, so why not spend some time there too? You know you won't spend a lot of money at the arcade!

Note: While there is no admission fee to the arcade itself, the lake/park does have an entrance fee - last we checked it was $5 for non-residents. So little to pay for so much fun!
