Updated 2018!
Along Route 9 / South Main Street in Barnegat, NJ you’ll spot a house happily cluttered with vintage items along the sidewalk, walls and windows. This is Unshredded Nostalgia, a collector’s dream and treasure trove of memorabilia, ephemera, vintage photos, antique movie posters and pretty much everything under the retro loving sun!
Owner Jim Episale - or his dog Liberty will give you a friendly greeting and an idea of the lay of the land, then you’re free to choose your own adventure.
Plan to spend some time here, as entering is a bit like going into a time portal. Not only are you traveling back in time, but with each room you enter, the building seems to expand and lead you into another room off of that, and another level above! You might want to leave a bread crumb trail.
There's a room with 200,000+ organized vintage photos. Two-hundred-thousand. Alphabetical. Cross referenced. Then there's a room dedicated to nothing but New Jersey memorabilia. And gambling memorabilia and military items, vintage cameras, magazines, art books, cartoon memorabilia, vintage records, and an entire loft devoted to vintage movie posters from every era. Sports memorabilia, Life magazines and more.
And my name wouldn't be Mod Betty LENNON if I didn't swoon a bit over the Beatles memorabilia (And yes, my dad's name is John Lennon) If you're into old stuff you'll know why this place is a must stop. Though Retro Roadhusband says I "must stop" going into places like this :-).
Mod Betty Says:
Ephemera means paper products that were not really meant to be saved. That’s why it’s so cool!
If there’s something particular you’re looking for - ask! You never know until you do.
Interested in buying a vintage hearse? Jim may be able to hook you up. Srsly.
