I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first drove past Vic’s, with the contrast of awesome vintage signs and more modern beige stucco, but once inside I was delighted. You will be too, if you’re into vintage knotty pine wood paneling, formica tables, tufted booths. And of course you are - you’re a Retro Roadmapper!
Vic’s started as a small bar opened by Vittorio “Vic” Guinco shortly after the end of prohibition, moving to this location around 1940. With the rise in popularity of Italian food after World War 2 it made sense to expand into a restaurant, and today Vic’s is still run by his family.
Open for lunch and dinner, homemade specials include manicotti, ravioli and lasagna made with their handed down family recipes, and their famous thin crust pizza is always in demand. Made in 3 sizes, the sauce and dough are made fresh daily and is a Retro Roadmap fave, with just the right tang of cheese and crisp of crust that Mod Betty craves (and so does Retro Roadhusband!)
Harkening back to their origins as a tap room, there’s a gorgeous antique mahogany bar in the back of the throwback dining room. And though the old school dining room is our fave spot to sit, we understand if you prefer to dine al fresco in the warmer weather.
Often named one of New Jersey’s best old school places for pizza by both local and national press, stop in and taste for yourself why Vic’s has been around for 70+ years.
If you’re a thick crust pizza fan they’ll double it up for you - just ask!
Open year round but closed on Mondays (check their website for holiday hours)
