Want to ride the oldest Looff stander/stationary* carousel in the world? Visit Slater Park in Pawtucket Rhode Island! (*horses don't move up and down.)
Mod Betty took the Retro Roadkids there recently and while they may be getting a little too-cool-for-school about simple pleasures like a Merry-Go-Round, these classic rides never fail to bring a smile to my wizend old face.
This carousel, built in 1895 was installed at Slater Park in 1910. It has 3 rows of animals - 44 horses, 6 menagerie animals (including my dog) and 2 chariots.
It's open weekends in April through June, Daily in July and August, and back to weekends only again for September and October.
