Retro Roadmap Reader Val Y. snapped a few shots of this Retro Roadmap-worthy Restaurant in Welch, WV and since I have had it on my list of places to check out but haven't yet - now's the time!
The Sterling Drive-In, since 1945
The Sterling is a car-hop service restaurant where you can still flash your lights for service while seated in your vehicle under the corrugated awning. I say vehicle, because not everyone arrives in a car! The folks in Welch are partial to their All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) and you should not be surprised if you see them pulled up to this roadside restaurant.
They've got your standard "fast food fare" listed on the outdoor menu, but according to blogger Candace Lately:
"Their "Signature Sterling Sub" is where it's at. It has cranberry sauce, bacon, lettuce, tomato and their special "spread" on a deep-fried bun."
When you go inside you'll see that they've Retro'd up the place with cheery orange and white booths and tables.
So next time you're in Welch, West Virginia you'll know of a Retro Roadmap worthy place to stop!
